Blog Trackbacks or Blog Comments?

This is an interesting debate. In blogs, everyone knows that there are two ways of getting backlinks - commenting on the articles (most common) and trackbacks (less common).

In case you don’t already know, a trackback is where you read someone elses article and decide to put a link to that article on your site. Then, their forum script receives the trackback and automatically puts a link back to your site as a comment. Its like an automatic reciprocal link exchange.

Although Blog Commenting is more popular and quicker, you’ll be suprised to know the answer to this debate. Actually Blog Trackbacks are worth more than Blog Comments in terms of SEO because a comment is just giving your view and Google can notice that, whereas a trackback is like an actual link which apparently gives more. Nobody can 100% confirm this, but this is what many people believe.

In conclusion, although blog commenting is easier, try to spend time building up valid blog trackbacks too. These are better than comments and the better the links, the better your SEO. More doesn’t always make it better.

I am not sure if this is the best method. In my blogs, I delete most trackbacks. This is because many people who post your article links are auto blogs who are just posting a short part of your article instead of writing real stuff themselves.

I prefer to give a link to someone who will leave a well thought out comment. That is just my opinion but I think comments are much better.
