Adsense Part 16 - Referral Ads

Welcome to Part 16 of the Learn Adsense Course. In this part, you will learn whether you should use Adsense for Referrals, and of course what it actually is.

Adsense for Referrals is like the Adsense for Content units. It looks like an ordinary ad, but instead of getting paid for each click, you will get paid for each conversion for the Advertiser. Normally you won’t get as much conversions as you will clicks, but the the conversions can pay well. The payment you get depends on the conversion type and on the advertiser. You can get paid from $0.10 to $80 per conversion!

Adsense for Referrals isn’t as popular as the usual Content because there aren’t as many advertisers (Not even close) but there are still a variety there so you still should get some advertisers related to your content in some way.

To create a Referral ad, login to Adsense and go to Adsense Setup. From there, click Referrals and you’ll be given a page where you can select the advertisers that you want to display instead of the Adsense Bot detecting them. You can either search by keyword or you can navigate through the categories. You can select up to 15 advertisers. You can also select a colour palette to blend your ads in, to optimize them. Once you’ve selected your options, you’ll be given the usual code to use.

Its debatable whether you should actually use the Referral Ads or not. On the one hand, you get paid a lot per conversion, and say if you get one big conversion then you could get so much more than what you would for a usual click on the Ad units. However, on the other hand, you will rarely get conversions unless you really have a lot of traffic on your website.

In conclusion, you should use Referral Ads, but you need to use Content ads as well, and concentrate on the Content ads more because you probably won’t get very far with Referrals.

Thank you for reading Part 16. We look forward to seeing you on Part 17.
