Making Money with… Yahoo Groups!

Yahoo Groups are incredibly popular these days. They are mainly used for advertising, but people can communicate with them. In this guide, you will learn how you can use Yahoo Groups to your advantage and then eventually make money from them.

Its easy to do this actually. First, you need to actually create the group that you want to make money from. Start by going to Yahoo Groups and creating a new group. Give it a simple name, and get it setup. Make sure you give people the option to post themselves. Make sure that the group is about proxies! This is important, you may see why later.

Now, once its all setup like you want and users can post, you need to advertise your group. See if you can get a few high-traffic proxies to put the subscribe button on their site to get some interest, or maybe just find a place where Proxy Owners discuss (Like a Proxy Forum) and then tell them that if they subscribe, they can advertise their proxy free of charge. You’ll get a lot of interest then.

Once you have a lot of subscribers and theres a lot of posts, you can change the options so subscribers can no longer make posts. Make sure you don’t do this too early or it will be highly ineffective. Now that only you can post and you have a lot of subscribers, try to go back to these Proxy Forums and sell your advertising to xxx members and sell it quite cheap. It only takes a couple of minutes to make a post for them, and people should be interested because its great advertising services.

Continue to gain more subscribers in other ways too so eventually you can make the prices higher, and then eventually you’ll suceed through your own Yahoo Group. It may take a while, but its definately worth it if you work hard.

Alexa Rank - What?

Alexa is a website owned by the big Amazon. Alexa collects data about every website and it counts up the number of visitors that a website has and ranks them all in ratings. Visitors are only counted if these visitors have the Alexa Toolbar installed. The Alexa Rankings are normally updated weekly or so, and it can take a while for a new site to get high up on the rankings.

Like PageRank though, its very controversial about whether its actually useful or not. This is the argument held by it.

Advantages
Well obviously if your site is doing well in the Alexa Rankings, it can look good for possible buyers of your SEO services or such. It can also prove that you’re getting the traffic that you say you are too. It can also be quite fun to see your Alexa Rank update and hopefully get higher up in the Rankings. When selling a website, it also looks good if you have a high Alexa Rank.

Disadvantages
It can easily be faked. There are numerous tools on the internet that you can download and make it send fake hits to your website to get you higher up on the rankings, which makes the rankings quite unfair for the people that take their time and do it fairly. Also, if you don’t have a good Alexa Rank when trying to sell a website, it can be quite difficult because these days buyers want a website that already has the traffic coming in, and you can’t prove it as much with a terrible rank. Moreover, how much does the Alexa Rank actually help? It doesn’t increase your traffic, your backlinks, your PageRank or your Search Engine Results, it just simply gives you a ranking. If it did more and actually affected these, it would probably be a lot better.

Conclusion
In conclusion, the alexa rank is quite useless and shouldn’t be taken so seriously. If you have a terrible alexa rank, so what? You can spend your valuble time trying to improve on the more important things like backlinks and traffic, which is exactly what we recommend.

CMS - Use Them or Not?

CMS (Content Management Systems) are the quick way to run a website. Examples of these are e107 and Joomla. All of the things you need are put into one simple script - Banner Advertising, Pages, Plugins etc… and its normally easy to follow. However, should you use these or not?

On the one hand, you should use them because they’re really easy and quick to use. You can just go to one URL, login to the admin panel and edit everything. They look decent, and some CMS’s have no ads shown on your website, so it looks like you’ve done it on your own. 99% of CMS’s are also free, which is why they are so popular. Plugins and Templates can easily be found on the internet too, which means its easy to customize your website.

On the other hand, you shouldn’t use them because as most people see them, they are the easy way out of actually putting in hard work. It shows to some people that you aren’t putting in effort into your website, and its likely to reduce your traffic just for using one. Thats one of the main problems for a CMS - A lot of people dislike them. Unfriendly URL’s can also spoil the website, and quite a few CMS’s make it difficult to do decent on Google. Just with that its set you back a lot, but to make it even worse, e107 doesn’t seem to like different sorts of scripts being in use, like with some templates, the script will break if you put Google Adsense on, forcing you to use a plugin for it or to just display it normally on a page, which is a real shame.

In Conclusion, I recommend not using CMS’s because they are the easy way out of making a great website, and these have so many disadvantages, that you might as well stop wasting your valuble time and make a proper website!
